SketchUp’s Layout is quite similar to Solidworks “Layout” in my opinion, just not quite as robust yet but with lots of potential. When it comes to creating 2D construction documents, AutoCad and its knockoffs are still the best option in my opinion. Taking things over the finish line (adding additional requested features willy nilly) can create huge time issues.įinally - when users are extremely busy it is difficult for them to try new things and or make major changes. The easy 80 / 90 percent takes 10 / 20 percent of the time.

SOFTPLAN VS CHIEF ARCHITECT SOFTWARE

Then there is the very real issue as software becomes more complex. Hackers on the other hand usually initially give a short time line and then continually miss deadlines (time lines). They will usually give you a more accurate time line.

SOFTPLAN VS CHIEF ARCHITECT CODE

One important consideration is if you want to be a software hacker (continually changing and morphing things) or if you want to properly analyze new requirements and properly document and code using a more disciplined approach.Įxperience programmers have a better track record in keeping development on time and on budget. You must have proper training and experience in software design and implementation. You must have intimate knowledge in the field (discipline). There are 2 things that I believe are necessary in creating decent software which is inherently complex. It might be time to jump into Plusspec, but TBH if I’m adopting new technology of that magnitude then I would be silly not to consider a new product family entirely. I’ve been waiting to see how Medeek, Pluspec, Profilebuilder, and other similar software develops …and was also hoping Layout 2019 would be much more capable ! I’m keen to do more with SU Report (layout interface) and Dynamic Components but they seem very clunky from what I’ve experienced. the ability to create our own library of professional-grade components/assets that’s searchable and organisational by type, class, parameter, etc.a menu to enable us to create and adjust components/assets with custom parameters that feed through into documentation (basically BIM).

SOFTPLAN VS CHIEF ARCHITECT PRO

I think what it highlights are a couple of things lacking from the general sketchup Pro featureset: Is it a lot of effort to create - and could you utilize the programming for architectural or engineering elements?

  • Click Next, then click Finish to import the file into your plan. It’s a really good extension - almost a full fledged piece of software it seems.
  • On the Drawing Unit screen, choose the unit of measurement that was used to create the DWG/DXF file, choose how dimensions should be imported, then ensure that the Move drawing to the Origin box is checked.
  • If a Terrain Perimeter does not exist in the plan, or if a layer in the DWG or DXF file is not converted to a Terrain Perimeter, a Terrain Perimeter is created around the extends of the Elevation Data when it's imported. To avoid unexpected results when importing a DWG or DXF file, only convert layers with elevation information to Elevation Data.
  • Other imported entities (solids, faces, etc.) are imported normally.
  • Imported points are converted to Elevation Points.
  • If the vertices have differing Z values, an Elevation Point is created for each vertex.
  • If any imported line has vertices with the same Z values, an Elevation Line is created.
  • Note: If an imported layer is converted to Elevation Data, any points and lines on that layer are converted to Elevation Points and Lines, and any elevation data associated with them is preserved.
